Travel agent charged with defrauding woman N5m in Ogun

A 52-year-old travel agent, Abimbola Lukman, has been arraigned before a magistrates’ court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for allegedly defrauding a woman of N5.1 million meant for processing a visa.

The defendant who was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and theft pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the defendant on November 1, 2022, on Obafemi Awolowo Avenue in Abeokuta posed as a travel agent and under the pretext of assisting the complainant, Ruth Ahiamadu, to process a Canadian working visa collected N5.1m through a bank transfer from her and neither did he process the visa or refund the money to the complainant.

The Magistrate, Mrs O O Odumosu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 14.
