The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has emphasised the vital role of the transport sector in Nigeria’s economic growth, calling it a key driver of development.
Speaking at the 2024 Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Management Retreat in Kaduna, the minister underscored the need for sustainable and innovative solutions to ensure the sector’s long-term viability.
Alkali highlighted the importance of implementing a performance management system to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement within NITT.
The minister called for the embrace of technological advancements, such as electric vehicles, autonomous transportation, and green transport solutions, noting that climate change and environmental degradation must be addressed.

He announced that NITT has become a centre for converting petrol-based vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).
Conversion centres have been established in Abuja and Zaria, with more underway in other states.
