FG trains 100 female farmers in ICT development

The Federal Government has trained 100 female farmers in a five-day Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training for agricultural development that could yield greater output.

The training coordinated by the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), was to expose participants to the role played by ICT in the development of modern agricultural practices.

It is to promote the government’s plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within 10 years.

The Director-General of NCWD, Mrs Mary Ekpere-Eta, at the presentation of certificates of attendance and laptop to beneficiaries, said the training and economic empowerment for women are critical, especially for those in the rural areas to be self-reliant.

She said, 70 per cent of the country’s population, which comprises women and youths, need to harness the power of ICT to participate in the programme and benefit from the information revolution taking place across the country.

“One hundred female farmers from different local government areas in the country were assembled for the intensive training after a thorough screening process.

“They have been made aware of ICT techniques that can be leveraged for business development, access to finance, marketing and networking strategies, personal security, and access to modern agricultural practices among others.”

The DG also said it is common knowledge that the SDG-5 is aimed at achieving gender equality to empower all women and girls through the use of ICT.

The participants were excited about the knowledge they acquired during the training and assured of putting it into use.
