Two persons, a motorcyclist popularly known as Okada rider and his passenger identified as a Police Inspector, were on Wednesday knocked down by a moving train in Lagos.

It was learnt that the incident happened around 9am at the popular PWD area in Ikeja when the Ijoko-Apapa bound train was moving.

Eyewitness account revealed that the Okada rider was trying to quickly manoeuvre through the level crossing while the train was moving.

However, he got stuck on the track with the passenger whose name was given as Inspector Philip Kolo.

Lagos District Manager of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Jerry Oche, who confirmed the incident said the motorcyclist refused to stop for the train to pass.

He said, “We have warned passersby, motorists and other road users to stay away from railway tracks. Railway track is a very dangerous place to toy with; everything involves iron, that is the rail tracks and the train itself.

“I learnt that he was trying to outsmart the train, before he was crushed by the moving train.

“It’s an unfortunate incident, and we are appealing to people to learn from such incident and exercise patience at the railway level crossings across the state,” he said.

The bodies of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary, it was learnt while the police is said to be carrying out investigations on the incident.

Spokesman of Lagos Police Command, DSP Chike Oti, also confirmed the incident, saying the police inspector was on official duty in Lagos.
