The accident occurred minutes after the train left its Ajasa station around 9:45pm on Thursday. The 12-coach train bears registration number EAR- 2132.
Many passengers were seen loitering around the area in search of where to pass the night, while the police cordoned off the scene to prevent theft.
Although there were no casualties, most of the passengers were in a state of shock.
One of the affected passengers, Malam Uzairu, said they heard a loud bang when the accident occurred. “When we heard the loud sound, many of us thought the train might have collided with a vehicle,” he said.
Another passenger, Mrs Rabecca Ishaya, said the train was Nguru bound and was expected to stop over at local stations in Jogana, Zakirai, Kaugama, Garun Gabas, among other places.
When contacted, the Kano railway station manager, Mr UA Halidu said he was not in the position to comment.
