Traditional ruler advocates corporate support for golf

Agwatyap, the paramount ruler of Atyap Chiefdom, Dominic Gambo Yahaya, has called on other corporate organisations to emulate First Bank Nigeria in organizing and supporting golf tournaments in the country.

He highlighted golf as a vital sport that brings people together from all walks of life, promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The traditional ruler spoke at the opening ceremony of the Kaduna Golf tournament sponsored by First Bank in the State.

The traditional ruler said as a participant, he hoped the tournament would further encourage social interaction among the participants.

“The Club brings people irrespective of religious or status together to play golf, fostering a peaceful Kaduna state. We hope other organisations learn from First Bank,” he said.

In his remarks, Shehu Aliyu, First Bank representative, said the bank has been sponsoring sports tournaments for over 100 years in Lagos, Kano, and other parts of the country.

He said the Kaduna golf tournament 2023 was sponsored as part of their contribution to sports development in the country.

Aliyu also expressed the hope that, after a review of the State Golf tournament’s success, the bank will consider making it an annual event to sustain the positive momentum.

Similarly, Ken Nwankwo, Captain of Kaduna Golf Club commended First Bank for sponsoring the tournament in the state.

He explained that it was the first time First Bank sponsored a golf tournament in the state.

The Captain, therefore, praised the bank for supporting the State Golf Club and sports in general in the country.
