The Inter-Tribal Traditional Leaders Association of Nigeria (ITTLAN), a third-system platform of traditional leaders of local communities in Nigeria serving as a strategic tool for local integration and unity has condemned the recent killings of cattle traders in Abia State.

The association expressed concerns over the incident which it described as callous, reprehensible, primitive and premeditated murder of innocent citizens.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the National Chairman, Dr Montface Theke Eze Ndighn Kan; the National Leader, Musa Muhammad Dogon Kadi (Sarkin Hausawan Agege); the Secretary, Ndunus T. Yakubs, and the zonal chairman, Oba Hassan.

The traditional leaders said, “the recent indiscriminate and unjustified cold-blooded mass slaughter of innocent and defenceless cattle traders by gunmen in Abia State Cattle Market is condemnable.”

“Even more irrational is the reality that in Nigeria today, all dramatist personae to conflict mending, including the government, the traditional institutions, civil society organizations, security agencies, religious institutions, who should have prevented and thwarted the plans to perpetrate this dastardly act, or even better control the miscreants and conduct conflict management roles to avert the tragedy, have not prevailed with positive expectations,” the statement said.

The association sympathized with the families of the victims and prayed to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
