As prices of goods and services continue to soar in Nigeria, the price of sugar, rice and flour in the popular Yankwalli market in Jos, the capital of Plateau State have risen.
Our correspondent gathered that on Sunday, the price of each bag of sugar, rice and flour has been increased to N62,000, N50,000 and N40,000 respectively.
The rising price of the products, which began on Monday has affected many retailers.
A sugar dealer in the market who pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent that the sudden increase in the price of the sugar followed an announcement from the sugar company in Lagos that the new company price could reach N60,000 or even more than that, a situation that prompted the dealers to increase the price.

The dealer said “Yesterday, the company sent texts to major dealers in the market that the new price of the products could reach N60,000. As a result of the announcement, some dealers who already have old stock, quickly increased the price from N53,000 to N60,000. This is what happened. “
Abdullahi Abdullahi, a retailer who came to the market to buy sugar but could not buy a bag, told our correspondent that ‘’The price is too high for me and that is why I cannot buy it now. Why the increase?”
Checks by our correspondent revealed that many retailers have since increased the price of ‘local mudu’ from N1600 to N2000.
