The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of a trader, Nasiru Abubakar, who was shot dead on Monday during an enforcement operation by the task force of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB).

It also confirmed that two people were also injured in the incident while more than five vehicles were burnt.

In a statement, the spokesman of the command, DSP Alfred Alabo, said the incident occured when all efforts to disperse some criminal elements failed and one of the personnel fired a warning shot into the air in an attempt to scare them away but that unfortunately one Nasiru Abubakar, a trader from Bukuru, Jos South LGA, was shot dead.

The statement reads in part: On 17/06/2024 at about 2pm, the Jos Metropolitan Development  Board (JMDB) Task Force, which is mandated to regulate buildings and vehicular traffic within the Greater Jos master plan, came to Bukuru on execution of the state government’s executive orders. While in the process, they were attacked by some armed hoodlums who began to destroy the properties of innocent citizens. About six cars were set ablaze while a yet to be estimated number of others were damaged.”

He added that on receiving the situation report, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, visited the scene with some members of his management team to assess the situation.

He further said that normalcy had since been restored in the area, while warning all persons with criminal intention within the state to either desist from such activities or flee the state as the police command remained resolute in the fight against crime and criminally.
