Trader arraigned for stealing 6 bags of rice

A 40-year-old trader, Sani Zubairu, was on Wednesday arraigned in a magistrates’ court for stealing six bags of rice.

Zubairu, who resides on Kano Road, Kaduna metropolis, is facing a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.

The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 12, at the Kawo Market, Kaduna.

He said, “On the same date at about 2pm the complainant, Mamoud Ali, asked the defendant to help him look after his shop while he went to the bank.

“But while the complainant was away, the defendant conspired with two others now at large and stole six bags of rice valued at N252,000 from the shop.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned to November 16. (NAN)
