Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, says the world’s economy, especially the tourism sector has not fully recovered from the impact of the COVID-19.
He noted that “the sharp decline in productivity, jobs creation and revenue generation in the Tourism sector has not been fully restored.”
Abiodun said this while delivering his address in Abeokuta at an event organised by the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism in commemoration of this year’s World Tourism Day.
The governor represented by his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, however, said his administration has put in measures towards revamping the sector in the post Covid-19 era.
“Although the World has settled into this new normal, the impact has not been fully gained. You will agree with me that the sharp decline in productivity, jobs creation and revenue generation in the Tourism sector has not been fully restored.
“It is therefore necessary that all hands must be on deck to bring the glory of the Tourism Sector back to reality.
“For us in Ogun State, we appreciate the capacity of Tourism as a viable approach to economic diversification. We have been strategic, methodical and systematic in our approach in the development of the tourism sector. This is just as we do in other sectors of our State’s economy,” he said.
On her part, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo, said the government is committed to driving the state’s economy through tourism.
“There is a need for new things to change the form and faces of tourism.
“Tourism Day has always been a chance to come together and celebrate the many and varied accomplishments of our sector. For the best part of four decades, we celebrated Tourism’s unparalleled growth in size, reach and significance,” the commissioner said.
