2021 was an amazing year for the Nigerian entertainment industry. Many films, music albums, actors and musicians were able to break into the international market, therefore putting the Nigeria entertainment industry on the global front. This makes it exciting to watch and see what amazing talents and sounds that will appeal to us this year, 2022 from the Kannywood and Nollywood industry.

Here’s a list of movies to expect in 2022

Nadiya

Nadiya is a film that is expected to be premiered on February 18 at Film House , Kano. It is a widely anticipated movie that casts Rahama Sadau as the lead actor.

In the movie, Rahama Sadau is a spoilt child that was pampered by her father, Rabiu Rikadawa so much so that she doesn’t know basic house chores, nor her basic religious rites as a Muslim and a house wife. She later got married to Umar M. Shareef and the drama continues as she doesn’t even know how to cook, and how to properly pray her daily five prayers.

The film is produced by Rahama Sadau under her movie production company, Sadau Pictures and directed by Yaseen Auwal.

Manyan Mata

Manyan Mata is a movie that is centred on addressing social vices like rape, drug addiction, street begging and many more. The movies parades high class Kannywood female actors like Hadiza Gabon, Fati Washa, Aisha Tsamiya, Momme Gombe and others.

In the movie, the women come together, came up with a foundation to fight the challenges facing women and fight for their right.

The movie is produced by Abdul Amart Maikwashewa with support from Future Assured Foundation of First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, and Musa Halilu Foundation, and directed by Sadiq N. Mafia.

Collision

This action and drama packed film is said to be released in February 2022. The movie tells the story of a collision between the worlds of a law enforcement officer and an aspiring singer. It’s a portrayal of the everyday lives of a police officer and a teenage musician. The movie is written by James Amuta and directed by Bolanle -Austen-Peters. The cast of the movie includes Ade Laoye, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Kenneth Okolie, Daniel Etim Effiong, Bimbo Manuel, Norbert Young etc.

Babymaker

This movie is best suitable for those who are fans of a good romance film filled with a lot of suspense and twist.  The movie focuses on Nasa, who has been recommended to start trying for a baby after her myomectomy. Nasa feels compelled to conceive a kid with Mofe, her best friend. IVF failed, but Mofe’s natural method works. When Nasa conceives, emotions run high, and they are on the edge of severing their long-standing friendship. Starring this romantic drama are, Kunle Remi, Bolaji Ogunlola, Adaora Udeh and Alvan Udeh. Adaora also doubles up as the screen writer with Orimz as the director of the movie.

All na vibes

Set in modern-day Ibadan, against the setting of a crushing university boycott and an undertone of political upheaval, three out-of-school teenagers- Abiola, Lamidi, and Sade- wrestle with a variety of existential questions about their futures. The three are brought together by Lamidi’s impetuous wish to have a party to ease the tension. After Sade mysteriously disappears after the party, the participation of Sade’s dad, a local party boss, and the hostile police force uncovers a darkness to Lamidi and puts their friendship and trust to the test. Starring in this teen drama include: Molawa Davis, Jide Kosoko, Tega Ethan, Tope Tedela etc. The movie was written by Issac Ayodeji and sees Taiwo Egunjobi as the director.

Death and the King’s horseman

Elesin, a Yoruba King’s horseman, is stopped from attempting suicide by British colonial officials, based on a historic incident. EbonyLife has revealed that this version of Wole Soyinka’s original play would be produced and distributed by Netflix. The movie is directed by Biyi Bandele, who has announced Brymo’s role as Olohun Iyo, the king’s praise singer, on his Instagram page. Omowunmi Dada and Deyemi Okanlawon are two additional well-known cast members. This Netflix film’s 1940s setting and costuming look to be quite appealing.

Gangs of Lagos

In Jade Osiberu’s Gangs of Lagos, Tobi Bakre, Adesua Etomi, and Chike will play best friends. As they negotiate the neighborhoods of Isale Eko, the action thriller will capture the lives of two best friends. In this Greoh Studios film directed by Osiberu, a member of the Ikorodu Bois and Pasuma are scheduled to appear.

Shanty town

Shanty Town is a crime story that attempts to depict what life is like in a ghetto. This will be Nollywood’s second foray into this subgenre, and it intends to be moral and magical. Scar, played by Chidi Mokeme, is the protagonist in this Giant Creative Studios production penned by Xavier Ighorodje and Donald Tombia. Zuby Michael, Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, Nse Ikpe Etim, Uche Jombo, Ali Nuhu, Sola Sobowale, and Mercy Eke are among the other stars.

Blood Sisters

On the day of their traditional wedding, Kemi (Nancy Isime) accidentally kills Kola, her closest friend Sarah’s (Ini Dima-Okojie) violent fiance. The choice to conceal the death sets in motion a chain of terrible events. Ramsey Nouah, Kate Henshaw, Deyemi Okanlawon, Gabriel Afolayan, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Demi Banwo, and Genoveva Umeh are among the other cast members. EbonyLife Studios produced the Netflix original, which wrapped production in late 2021. The film will be released during the first half of 2022.

Albums to expect in 2022

More love, less ego – Wizkid

With his immensely popular  “Made in Lagos”  album, Ayo Balogun aka Wizkid had unparalleled success in 2020 and 2021. Ginger feat. Burna Boy, No Stress, Mood feat. Buju, Anoti, and the innovative “ Essence” feat. Tems were among the album’s major songs. Many music fans and reviewers consider Made in Lagos to be a masterpiece, with Essence reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving a Grammy nomination. Wizkid has revealed that his next album, “ More Love Less Ego,” will be released in November 2021, and that it would feature Wande Coal, Bella Shmurda, Buju, and other international artists. The project is expected to be released in March of this year.

Outsider – Burna Boy

The African Giant Aka Burna Boy has set a release date for his next album, tentatively named “ Outsider “, for 2022. Wizkid, Wande Coal, and other popular global talents are expected to appear on the album, which is a follow-up to the Grammy award-winning “ Twice as Tall” record. The album will be released through a joint venture between Spaceship and Atlantic Records.

Signs- Runtown

Runtown, the Mad over You Singer, has been absent from the conventional Nigerian music industry for some time. In late 2020, the artiste released his most recent huge track, “What Happens in Lagos.” His sophomore album, “ SIGNS,” is set to be released in 2022.
