Multiple reports attributing to family members of Tony Anenih say he is dead.
The former works minister is reported to have died on Sunday evening at an undisclosed Abuja hospital at age 85.
A statement is expected to be released later.
Anenih was an influential politician in his time, across his home state of old Bendel, now Edo, and in national politics.
He was national chairman of the Social Democratic Party in 1993.
Meanwhile, Senate President Bukola Saraki sent out a tweet praising Anenih as a “consummate eldestateman” who played defining roles throughout Nigeria’s democracy.
