TMG begins tracking Tinubu’s campaign promises, launches compendium

The Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) has inaugurated a compendium to track the campaign promises of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The compendium contains campaign promises made by the four major presidential candidates during the electioneering period.

Speaking at the launch of the document in Abuja, the Chairman of TMG and Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Mallam Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, said the document was published to ensure that politicians respected and implemented the commitments they made to Nigerians and for the citizens to hold them to account.

He said, “Oftentimes we have seen politicians deny promises they made after they have been elected to office, or just simply turn blind eyes to promises made, especially when no one seems to hold them to account on those promises.

“Also, we have seen citizens quickly forget about the promises made if they are not documented. Hence TMG has documented promises from the 2023 elections with the hope of presenting a tool that can be used to remind elected leaders and hold them to account for their own words.”

He further said that TMG adopted a straightforward methodology in documenting the promises which included desk reviews, and constant monitoring of appearances of the candidates in different media and fora.
