Tiwa Savage: I Tried To Bleach My Skin

Nigerian musician, Tiwa Savage, has revealed that she tried to bleach her skin when she was younger.

In an interview with Allure magazine, savage spoke about her career and dealing with colourism.

“I actually did try to bleach my skin when I was about, I think, 14, 15,” she said.

The singer claims she has now grown in love with her skin, saying this informed her decision to pursue natural looks on set.

She said since accepting herself, she no longer feels pressured to look perfect.

“And I feel like there’s so much pressure now and it’s going to get even worse with social media and there needs to be a balance. There needs to be some people that are not too perfect. I know we want to look good. I don’t want to be out there looking jacked up, but I also want to look relatable,” she said.

The Magazine unveiled her as the face of its ‘This year’s Best of Global Beauty’ issue.

The Nigerian musician and mother of one, dubbed ‘Afrobeat Queen’ by the beauty magazine, was featured alongside Brazillian musician, Anitta and Korean hip-pop artist, CL.
