A pregnant woman was on Wednesday knocked down by a moving tipper in Jos North local government of Plateau state.
It was learnt that during the incident about four men were also injured.
Daily Trust gathered that the incident happened around 6pm at the popular Bauchi Junction in Jos when the brakes of the tipper failed.
Our reporter who visited the scene of the incident confirmed that the accident occurred when motorists and business people were about going back home after work.
A Keke-Napep rider, Ibrahim Ahmad said the tipper crushed the woman in his presence.
He said, “When the driver was struggling to control the tipper the woman was carrying a 2-year old baby with her, when she saw the tipper coming towards her direction she threw the baby away, but before she could run, the tipper crushed her to death.”
He added that during the incident about four people were injured and were both rushed to Sunnah Hospital for medical attention.
A doctor on duty at the Sunnah Hospital, Dr Alabi T. A who confirmed the death of the pregnant woman said the deceased was already dead before she was brought to the hospital, adding that the other four injured people are currently receiving treatment.
She said, “Before she was brought to the hospital, the woman had already died. She died instantly. Members of her family have since collected the corpse for funeral. The four injured victims are with us receiving treatment,”
Another eye-witness incident, Musa Ibrahim, narrated how the incident occurred.
“The tipper was at a car stand for five years waiting for a buyer and the car stand is close to the scene of the accident. Luckily, a buyer came and bought it. In the evening around 6pm, he came with a driver to take the tipper to a garage for fixing other necessary things.
“As the driver started the tipper and began to move, suddenly, the brake failed and ran towards direction of the woman who was holding a baby girl.”
He added that the baby of the deceased survived unhurt.
