President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Sultan of Sokoto Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; the governors of Borno and Yobe states, Babagana Umara Zulum and Mai Mala Buni, are among the dignitaries expected to grace the 38th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Damaturu, Yobe State.
The commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the NUJ secretariat in Damaturu, the state capital.
He said the event, which will kick off on Friday, December 27, will have President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as special guest of honour, while Governor Zulum will serve as chairman of the closing ceremony.
He added that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, will serve as a special royal guest, while the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Geidam, will serve as the chairman of the opening ceremony.

According to Bego, about 296 participants from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are to feature in the 10 categories of the competition.
He said Yobe has eight participants in the competition and with the level of support and training they have received, the state is optimistic that they will emerge as winners.
