Various youth groups in Bauchi State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have asked the party’s top echelon, and the presidential candidate for the 2023 poll, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to pick Borno State governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, as running mate.
Addressing a press conference in Bauchi on Sunday, Leader of the APC youth stakeholders’ forum, Malam Shamsuddeen Waziri, who spoke on behalf of all the groups, said the pair of Tinubu and Zulum would add value to the party’s electoral fortunes and boost its chances at next year’s general election.
The group said after studying the security, economic and other challenges bedevilling the country, it is their resolution that Zulum should be picked to fill the vice presidential slot.
Shamsuddeen explained that Zulum is more accepted by Nigerians than any other contender for the VP slot.
“We the APC youth leaders in Bauchi, therefore, appeal to the national chairman of our great party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the party’s presidential flag bearer, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, as well as other party stakeholders to consider our clarion call not only to zone the vice presidential candidacy to North East but also the nomination of Professor Zulum as the vice presidential candidate,” the group said.
It said the achievements recorded by Governor Zulum and his exemplary leadership over the last three years have made him win the hearts of the people of Bauchi and Nigerians in general, which can in turn, make him sellable to the electorate by the party in February 2023.
“Looking at the strong support given to the party’s presidential candidate in the last primary election by the zone, the North East stands a favoured geopolitical zone for the vice presidential slot, hence the need for all stakeholders and Nigerians to support this move.”
