The Director General of the Micheal Imodu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Comrade Issa Aremu, has urged the incoming administration to sustain welfare and job security of workers.
Aremu stated that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari recorded remarkable achievements in the areas of workers welfare and job security in the past eight years, urging, the incoming President, Bola Tinubu, to consolidate on these achievements.
He spoke during the 40th Anniversary of MINILS’ Founder’s Day and investiture programme in Abuja, which was co-organised by Go-getters Consultants Ltd.
“Because the workplace by nature of its design is inherently conflictual, we must build workers’ capacity to handle grievances or disputes at work. And that means they must do regular training on conflict resolution, how to negotiate, how to engage in collective bargaining, how to carry members along.”
“And this is where MINILS comes in. We have been promoting workers’ education for the past 40 years, and that informed the theme of our investure ”Labour Education for Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”. We are tested in the management of crises in the world of work and we are doing so through workers’ education,” he said.
The consultant to the MINILS, Mr Olukomi Ayokami, said the more government agencies and parastatals send their staff to the institute for training, the less disputes they would experience at the workplace.
