Tinubu urged to address issues plaguing oil sector

President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Dr Alaye Tari Theophilus, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the issues plaguing the oil sector to give Nigerians a better life.

This followed the rise in fuel pump prices as well as the scarcity of the product being experienced in the country amidst growing insecurity, hunger, poverty and hardship.

In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, Dr Theophilus said if the Group Chief Executive of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources are found wanting, President Tinubu should relieve them of their appointments.

He argued that the lack of proper administration of the petroleum sector had triggered hardship in the country with many Nigerians struggling to afford foodstuff.

The Ijaw Youth Council President said poor management of the nation’s oil resources has led to high fuel prices, scarcity of petroleum products, and a strain on the national economy.

“The mismanagement and political manoeuvring within the oil sector are evident. The decisions made by these key figures are not in the best interest of the people but rather serve political interests that further marginalise the already struggling regions, especially the Niger Delta, which bears the brunt of oil exploration.

“We demand that the President takes decisive action by removing these individuals from their positions to restore confidence in the oil sector and alleviate the suffering of Nigerians,” he said.
