Tinubu should use achievements of NPC for successful 2023 census

Based on my investigation, I learned that besides the census conducted by the British colonial government in 1901, most of the censuses conducted after independence were marred by controversies and allegations of tempering with figures, false and far-fetched allegations of irregularities.

One may ask, why are censuses mostly delayed, or more so abandoned by successive administrations?

The National Population Commission (NPC) has done marvellously well with the successful demarcation of the entire country into various enumeration areas using the Geographic Information System (GIS). That’s why I still believe that the NPC is evidently prepared to conduct the 2023 housing and population census.

Moreover, the successful training of facilitators and the specialized workforces who’ll train the supervisors and enumerators on how to use the digitalized NPC census pad, underpin this claim about the NPC’s readiness to conduct the census.

Accordingly, we expect Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s incoming government to consolidate the achievements so far gained by the National Population Commission for the successful conduct of the 2023 housing and population census.

Also, considering the daily rising demands for a fair and balanced distribution of resources, the census information will be used to identify the right and proper places that need development and investments.

The data gathered during the housing and population census will no doubt assist the incoming government to make informed and accurate decisions on policymaking.

Also, it’ll make it easier to accelerate funding of physical infrastructure, plan for the needs of various regions of the country, as well as designing accurate and sustainable tools on how to address the needs.
