Tinubu/Oyegun Rift: APC Governors back Oyegun

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has said that the governors of All Progressive Congress, APC, has (have)  backed the party’s National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun over the rift with Chieftain Asiwaju Tinubu.

Bello disclosed this to state house correspondents after their meeting with president Muhammadu Buhari when he met them at Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja late Thursday night.

Bello, while addressing State House reporters after the two-hour closed-door meeting, said the APC governors have confidence in Oyegun on the allegation by the national leader of the APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, that the party’s national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, was sabotaging the ongoing reconciliation efforts.

“The governors and majority of APC members, have confidence ‎in our national chairman, Chief John Oyegun. We also believe in the president by appointing Bola Tinubu, our leader, to reconcile some aggrieved members of our party".

However, one-size-fits-all will not work and all the states where some erring members need to be disciplined," he said.

Tinubu had, in a letter to Oyegun, faulted what he called the “hurried” inauguration of a caretaker committee of the APC in Kogi State.

"In Kogi, you rushed to the state, to unilaterally inaugurate a new set of state officials, parallel to the officials already heading the state chapter of the party. While this may place you in significant affinity with those parallel officials you had picked, this machination suggests no improvement in the welfare of the party in Kogi State or at the national level.

“This usurpation of authority exacerbates conflict and confusion. It doesn’t resolve it. It is my understanding that the dissolution of the
duly constituted state executive and the hurried naming of the above mentioned group wasn’t approved by the NWC," Tinubu had stated in the letter.
