Congratulations to President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima on assuming the leadership of Nigeria. As the new administration begins its journey, it is crucial to recognise the significance of appointing credible cabinet ministers, particularly for the crucial portfolios of foreign affairs and finance.

These appointments hold the key to positioning Nigeria’s economy for growth and projecting a positive image of our nation on the global stage. It is in this spirit that I offer this advice, urging the president and vice president to prioritise competence and credibility in the selection of these essential ministers.

Nigeria’s economy stands at a critical juncture, requiring prudent economic policies, robust investment strategies, and international collaborations to drive sustainable growth. To accomplish these goals, the appointments of credible ministers of finance and foreign affairs are pivotal.

The minister of finance, in particular, must possess a profound understanding of economic principles and a proven track record of sound financial management both at the national and international level, respectively. He should be capable of steering Nigeria towards fiscal discipline, promoting transparency, and attracting foreign direct investment.

The next finance minister must exhibit the ability to create an enabling environment for business growth, implementing policies that encourage entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic diversification through massive foreign investments.

Nigeria’s global reputation is equally vital in attracting investments, fostering international partnerships, and promoting tourism and cultural exchanges.

The minister of foreign affairs shoulders the responsibility of projecting Nigeria’s image as a responsible and influential player on the world stage. To achieve this, the individual appointed to this crucial position must possess exceptional diplomatic skills, a deep understanding of global politics and the ability to foster positive relations with other nations.

The minister of foreign affairs should proactively engage in diplomatic efforts, actively representing Nigeria’s interests while fostering cooperation with other nations. He must advocate for fair trade practices, promote Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, and encourage foreign investments that align with our national development goals.

By projecting a positive image abroad, we can attract foreign investors, expand our export markets, and create opportunities for Nigerian businesses to thrive on the international stage.

As Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima navigate the complex challenges of steering the leadership of our great nation, it is essential that the appointments of cabinet ministers prioritise meritocracy and expertise over political considerations.

A competent cabinet consisting of qualified individuals will contribute significantly to good governance, effective policy implementation, and sustainable development.

I have no doubt that both of them, as former governors and experienced administrators who have transformed their respective states, are reminded to select individuals based on their qualifications, experience and integrity.

The new administration can send a strong message of transparency, accountability, and dedication to the Nigerian people.

In conclusion, President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have a remarkable opportunity to steer Nigeria towards economic prosperity and global prominence. By appointing competent and credible cabinet ministers, particularly for the key portfolios of foreign affairs and finance, they can set the foundation for sustainable economic growth and enhance Nigeria’s global image.

I urge the new administration to prioritise meritocracy, experienced, expertise, and integrity in these appointments, ensuring that Nigeria’s best interests are upheld at all times.

Only through such deliberate actions can we unleash Nigeria’s immense potential and secure a brighter future for all Nigerians. Welcome, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima!
