President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sympathised with the Nigerian Army and the family of the late Major-General Chris Alli (rtd), former Chief of Army Staff, who died on Sunday.
The president, in a statement on Monday by his spokeman, Ajuri Ngelale, described the passing of Maj.Gen. Alli as a painful loss.
He said the deceased, who was Chief of Army Staff from 1993 to 1994 when he retired from service, served Nigeria faithfully.
“I condole with the Alli family and the Nigerian Army over the sad loss of the former Chief of Army Staff. He served his country with honour and retired meritoriously. May the Almighty God rest his soul and grant his family the fortitude to bear the huge void,” President Tinubu said.
He said Major-General Alli was a respected officer who held other important positions in the Nigerian Army, such as Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), before his elevation to the Chief of Army Staff.
