President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the Super Eagles for qualifying for the finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
He congratulated through his official X account (formerly known as Twitter).
“From the Southernmost cape of Africa to the Plains of Mauritania and the coast of West Africa. You have made us all Proud to be Nigerians. Go… Soar in the AFCON Finals. Well done, boys,” he tweeted.
In the same vein, the sports minister, John Enoh urged the team to bring the trophy home.

“My dear Super Eagles, today you have given every Nigerian Compatriot a reason to rejoice. We all doff our hats to you.
“You have shown us all that the Nigerian spirit is a winning spirit. You are conquering the continent one match at a time. Bravo, heroes of our time!
“You have set your goals high and you have not stopped. Keep soaring and bring home the Africa Cup of Nations. Unto the Finals. Congratulations,” he said.
It will be recalled that Nigeria had not been involved in a penalty shootout since 2010 when they they triumphed over Zambia.
They had previously triumphed in a penalty shootout at the Bouake Stadium 40 years ago. Incidentally, it was also a semi-final match with Egypt.
Other penalty shootouts involving Nigeria in the semi-finals are those of 1988 and 1994.
