Tinubu: I support Sanwo-Olu’s plan to end pension for former govs

A former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the plan to abolish pension package for former governors and their deputies, as part of cost-cutting measures.

In a series of tweets via his Twitter handle on Wednesday, said: “Congratulations to Governor Sanwo-Olu over the Y2021 budget which he appropriately christened, ‘Budget of Rekindled Hope’. This audacious and enterprising budget will empower our people and begin to rebuild Lagos State.

“In particular, I would also like to commend the Governor for the plan to commence the repeal of the Pension Law giving pension packages to former governors and their deputies,” Tinubu tweeted.

He added, “This is a bold and courageous move by Mr. Governor and I wholeheartedly support him. I encourage all APC loyalists to do the same.”

Daily Trust reports on Wednesday that Governor Sanwo-Olu had proposed the abolition in his 2021 budget while asking other governors to take the step towards dropping governance cost and promoting selflessness in leadership.

It was reported that there are various states where former governors and their deputies continue to earn pensions while they are into other leadership positions at the moment.
