The sacrifices you made shall not be forgotten – President Bola Tinubu lauds Senator Uba Sani,Governor of Kaduna State during June 12 Democracy Day 2024 Celebrations
His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has praised the selfless efforts of Senator Uba Sani Governor Kaduna State and other notable pro-democracy activists whose diligence, sacrifice and determination entrenched democracy in Nigeria after many years of post-independence military rule.
The President made this known during his nationwide broadcast to celebrate Nigeria’s 25 year of unbroken democracy.
President Tinubu stated that “While the exiled pro-democracy activists kept the fire burning, their comrades at home sustained the pressure on the military brass hats. Among the latter are Olisa Agbakoba, Femi Falana, Abdul Oroh, Senator Shehu Sani, Governor Uba Sani, Chief Olu Falae, and other National Democratic Coalition leaders such as Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Ayo Opadokun.

The sacrifices they made, and the precious gift brought about by their selfless devotion can never be repaid. Neither shall it be forgotten.”
Additionally as part of activities to mark Democracy Day 2024, Senator Uba Sani as duly elected Governor of Kaduna State,exercised his powers of prerogative of mercy and freed 110 convicts from the Kaduna Correctional Centre.
Governor Sani was joined at the event by fellow comrade, human rights and pro-democracy activist Femi Falana SAN where he used the opportunity to pay tribute to his mentor and senior comrade, Chief Gani Fawehimni, SAN, GCON “who devoted his boundless energy and legal skills to advicacy for reform of the penal system and decongestion of our correctional centers. “
Governor Sani added that “Our administration is anchored on Justice and Fairness. We are committed to bringing succour to the poor, vulnerable and underserved in Kaduna State. We have zero tolerance for discrimination. We strongly believe that there is inherent goodness in every person. We believe that everybody deserves a second chance. Persons in custodial centers can turn a new leaf and contribute to the growth and development of our state.”
Furthermore, as part of interventions to support the operations of the Kaduna Custodial Centre, Governor Sani directed the installation of solar powered streetlights in the correctional centre and provision of operational vehicles.
Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani has expressed his appreciation for the recognition accorded to him by President Bola Tinubu, acknowledging his sacrifices and efforts in actualizing democracy in Nigeria.
Mr Tinubu’s gesture, according to the governor, serves as a morale booster and a testament to the collective struggle for a democratic Nigeria.
The governor hailed Mr Tinubu for recognizing him and other notable pro-democracy activists whose diligence, sacrifice and determination entrenched democracy in Nigeria after many years of post-independence military rule.
In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu, on Wednesday, Mr Sani reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to upholding democracy at all levels.
The President, in his Democracy Day address to the nation on Wednesday, commended notable personalities for their unrelenting efforts in ensuring the triumph of democracy in Nigeria.
“We lost great heroes and heroines along the way. In this struggle, the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, the most significant symbol of our democratic struggle, his wife, Kudirat, General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and Pa Alfred Rewane, among others sacrificed their very lives.
“While the exiled pro-democracy activists kept the fire burning, their comrades at home sustained the pressure on the military brass hats. Among the latter are Olisa Agbakoba, Femi Falana, Abdul Oroh, Senator Shehu Sani, Governor Uba Sani, Chief Olu Falae, and other National Democratic Coalition leaders such as Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Ayo Opadokun.
