The expressway, previously known as the Iseyin-Apewo Village Junction-Ahoro Dada-Fatope-Ogbomoso Road, was renamed by Makinde in honour of the former governor of the state, the late Adebayo Alao-Akala. Stretching across 76.76 kilometres and traversing numerous communities between Iseyin and Ogbomoso, the road holds immense significance for the region.
Vice President Shettima, expressing his affinity for Oyo State, emphasised its importance as his second home. He assured that the president would support Makinde’s efforts to position the state as an agronomic hub in Nigeria.
