Tinubu, Atiku, Obi to present educational plans before school owners

The presidential candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alh. Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, have been scheduled to present their plans and programmes for education in Nigeria at a town hall meeting organised by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS).

Alh. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential flagbearer for the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), was also invited for an interaction at the town hall meeting, which is part of activities lined up for NAPPS’ annual international conference and exhibition scheduled to hold from November 29 – December 1 at Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

National President of NAPPS, Chief Yomi Otubela, who disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday, said the Association has sent invitation letters to the four presidential candidates, assuring that the committee in charge is working assiduously towards confirming their availability.

According to Otubela, the presidential candidates are not coming for debate but for an interaction with private school operators and providers of allied services in the country with a view to revealing their planned programmes and policies for education.

At the conference themed ‘Revamping Africa’s education for sustainable development: Private education perspective’, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, is expected to deliver the keynote address, while the Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and host governor.

The conference, according to Otubela, will provide an avenue for the association to host a flood of participants, comprising of school proprietors from across different states of Nigeria and outside the country, with the participation of invited parents, private/public school teachers, government dignitaries, multinational organisations, foreign partners, exhibitors and various stakeholders.

Additionally, the conference and exhibition will feature various programmes including: master class programme for school owners, teachers and professionals in the education sector; public lectures from erudite speakers; exhibition of products and services from local to multinational companies, award ceremonies for distinguished members of the society and the association, policy decisions to impact education positively among others.
