Tinubu asked to probe Presidential Amnesty Programme

Some Nigerians under the aegis of Association of Contractors/Vendors, stake holders of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) have demanded the President Bola Tinubu’s led administration to probe the monthly allocation to the Programme from 2022 to 2024.

They also appealed to the federal government to order the agency to pay the contractors money being owed for over two years.

The association made this known in an open letter tagged “Mr. President, save our souls before its too late,” signed by the association coordinator, Success Ebiere, on Wednesday.

She stated that there was tension and anger in the region due to abandonment, neglect and denials of the benefits to the people which are the purpose and essences of the Presidential Amnesty Programme was created for.

The letter partly reads; “We, the members of Association of Contractors/Vendors, stake holders of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) are using this medium to openly expose what is happening and what the youths and people of the Niger Delta are experiencing in the hands of the Administrators that have been appointed to manage the affairs of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

“After much effort to address the issues, we bring this to your notice on how the actions of (PAP) administrators. Presently, there is anger in the region due to abandonment, neglect and denials of the benefits to the people which are the purpose and essences of the Presidential Amnesty Programme was created for.

“For over two years and counting, the Vendors and Contractors have not been paid for jobs done by the agency.

“We are bringing this information to your attention so that prompt & swift action can be taken for this not to escalate to the level that will affect the renew hope Agenda.

“Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo took over in 2018. He stopped payment of jobs given by his predecessor and awarded his own contracts. He also stopped the 15% upfront payment and asked contractors to source funds themselves, promising to pay upon completion.

“Before is remover in office. Col. Milland Dixon Dikio (Rtd) took over in August 2020. Immediately upon resuming office, he started payment of all outstanding jobs completly done by both Brigadier General Boroh and Professor Charles.

“These actions are contrary to your Renewed Hope Agenda, Mr. President. We urge you to act quickly on this matter to prevent further suffering and potential unrest in the Niger Delta region.”

The programme is yet to react to the allegations.
