Local hunters and Vigilante operatives guarding the Kano Emir’s palace (Gidan Rumfa) have deserted the place as operatives of the police command in the state have taken over the security affair of the palace.

Daily Trust had reported that the local hunters and vigilantes have been providing security to Gidan Rumfa since the appointment of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

Checks by Daily Trust reporter on Monday morning showed that the said security providers were nowhere to be found.

Only police vehicles were stationed across all sections of the palace.

Daily Trust had reported that the return of Sanusi to Gidan Rumfa was a rush hour plan owing to privileged information on the move of the embattled 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to return to the palace.

Sanusi was rushed into the palace at about 2am by Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf alongside some government officials to prevent Bayero from returning to the palace.

However, upon reaching Gidan Rumfa, Bayero moved to Nassarawa mini palace where is still occupying and observing traditional rites.

While Bayero is provided with security operatives including the Police, military and Civil Defense, Sanusi was provided with local hunters and vigilantes who were mobilised from the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

Meanwhile, as the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Usaini Gumel has been elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and a new Commissioner has been posted to the State.

It was gathered that the new CP will resume officially on Monday as all arrangements for formal handover have been put in place.
