The presiding judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, sentenced the three accused persons after they pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of joint act, assault, and theft contrary to sections 79, 265 and 287 of the Penal Code.
Kagarko did not give them an option of fine but also ordered them to pay the sum of N10,000 to the complainant as compensation.
The police prosecutor had earlier informed the court that the complainant was returning from school in Benue State on December 13 when he was beaten up by the convicts at Nyanya motor park, Abuja.
He said the convicts, Kingsley Eneh, 28; Anthony, 21; and Godpower Obiazwor, and one Ibrahim now at large all male of no fixed address after jointly beating the complainant also forcefully collected his Nokia Aisha 205 handset valued at N10,000 and run with it to an unknown destination.
“Crime records at Nyanya police station reveal that you all have been charged to court several times for the same offence,” the prosecutor said.
He said the complainant reported the case at the Nyanya police station on the day ot the incident.
