The Director-General, National Senior Citizen Centre (NSCC), Dr. Emem Omakaro has disclosed that the  federal government would no longer tolerate any form of abuse against older persons in the society, noting that any perpetrator caught would be punished.

She disclosed this yesterday in Abuja at the maiden dialogue edition of the Centre with the theme: ‘Leveraging Senior Citizens’ Partnership for Effective Service Delivery’.

She stressed that the Federal Government was going to fight against the abuse of older persons in the society.

She noted that older people were abused emotionally, verbally, the act of neglect, violence amongst others hence also disclosed plans to campaign against abuse of older persons and ensure they have legal services in order to access justice when abused.

On his part, National Coordinator, National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) Iorwa Akpere also revealed that 200,000 most vulnerable and older citizens in urban areas were targeted to receive the Covid 19 conditional cash transfer before the end of August 2021.

He noted that the government had so far registered 8.5million households into the social register.
