Suspected thieves have allegedly vandalised a step down transformer and carted away the cables at Rubochi village, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
A resident of the community, identified as Baba Ayuba, said this when he led the council chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi D. Galadima, to the site where the transformer was mounted near Government Secondary School (GSS).
He told the chairman that staff of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) who were on routine maintenance check to the area, discovered that the cables had been stolen by suspected thieves.
Our reporter learnt that the transformer also supplies electricity to neighboring Monu, Kulo, among other villages in the area.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the council said it was unfortunate that some hoodlums will come to vandalize government property without having sympathy for the people of the community.
He said the perpetrators could be some experts who know the importance of the cables, while urging the police and other members of the vigilante to collaborate to fish out the perpetrators.
He noted that since the transformer was mounted at an isolated place, security will be provided pending when the transformer will be moved close to the town.
