Thieves operated freely while the popular Maciver Market in Warri South LGA of Delta State was engulfed with fire.
City & Crime gathered that the fire occurred between 1am to 2am on Monday which might have been ignited from combustible items such as paper and cellophane.
A source, Mr Tony Demebide, condemned the actions of thieves who took advantage of the fire to steal from stores in the guise of rescue.
He said, “I saw for myself young boys and men in the guise of trying to save the situation carting away items. I saw some arguing over ownership of who picked it up first.”

It would be recalled that the incident was coming less than a week after a fire outbreak in the neighbouring Ogbe-Ijoh Market which was described as the most devastating fire incident ever recorded in the history of the market.
