NFF Executive Board Member, Aisha Falode has emphasised that African football has advanced to the point where there are no longer minnows in the game.
Falode, a former President of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) said it is difficult to predict a potential winner as traditional teams failed to perform while the smaller teams surprised the bookmakers.
“This is a Nations Cup that is so unpredictable in quality and intensity. Its Nations Cup that the participating number has increased. It just confirms that there are no longer pushovers in African football. If you look at those teams like Gambia, Mauritania giving the traditional teams a hard time, threatening to send the regulars out of the competition.
“We see Cape Verde giving quality football that Africa should be proud of. You can’t predict the winner of this AFCON. We must commend CAF for what they have done so far,” she said.
She further said the AFCON can compete favourably with other tournaments as the passion and commitment from the tournament can’t be experienced elsewhere.
“We can compete with the best in the world. You can’t experience this kind of drama in UEFA. There is so much passion where you will see men, women and even children crying. This is a big improvement in this edition. In the past, we used to say from the knockout stage we will separate the men from the boys. It is no longer so. The boys have displaced the men,” she stated.
In the same vein, during a visit to the Super Eagles camp said Nigerians are praying for their success and have thrown their full support behind them.
