At least 9 of the 17 directors who initially survived the ongoing purge at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have been sacked.

Since he took over the apex bank, Yemi Cardoso has embarked on major reforms, which include pruning the staff number.

Daily Trust had reported how some senior staff of the bank from the era of Godwin Emefiele were spared in the massive retrenchment which began in March.

However, they were recently shown the exit door.

The total number of affected staff is nearly 600, according to CBN sources who revealed that virtually all those working in the Governor’s Directorate have been sacked.

It was learnt that the engagement letters of additional 200 have been signed, and would be issued to the affected staff in the coming days.

Below is a list of affected directors:

  • Dr Blaise Ijebor, Director, Risk Management
  • Dr Mahmud Hassan, Director, Trade & Exchange;
  • Dr Ozoemena S. Nnaji, Director, Statistics
  • Chibuike D. Nwaegerue, Director, Other Financial Institutions Supervision
  • Chibuzo A. Efobi, Director, Payments System Management
  • Haruna Bala Mustafa, Director, Financial Policy and Regulation
  • Rakiya Shuaibu Mohammed, Director, Information Technology
  • Benjamin Nnadi, Director, Reserve Management

Editor’s Note: This story has been updated following fresh findings about the status of some directors who were initially captured as sacked rather than retired.
