THE LAST GOOD BOOK I READ… Aysha Abdullahi (Literary Agent) Manchester Happened by Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi

Literary agent Aysha Abdullahi’s last good read is Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi’s ‘Manchester Happened’. “I’m such a fan of Jennifer Makumbi that I am sold on her books,” she said. “It’s an amazing book about immigration. She’s Ugandan, but from the story she could have as well been Nigerian because it’s the same things that happen to African immigrants in diaspora. It’s the same politics of leaving your country to look for daily bread somewhere else that she poured into this book. Even though it is said that the narratives are stale because they have been told and retold, there’s always a fresh perspective, and that’s what I have gotten in this book.”

Abdullahi is co-owner of Page & Palette, a literary agency in Abuja.
