Since 2019, the UK government has set different energy price caps which electricity/gas suppliers can charge each household – no matter the amount consumed. This compassionate policy was meant to protect citizens from energy price volatility and thorns of cost of living.
But in Nigeria, when citizens are struggling to adjust to petrol price increase and skyrocketting foodstuff prices, the government chose to aggravate their woes by increasing the electricity tariff by 300 percent!
- Expect more increase in electricity tariff, FG tells Nigerians
- ‘How electricity tariff hike’ll stifle businesses’
To sugar-coat the insane hike, the government told Nigerians not to worry as the increase only affects a certain category or band of consumers. Isn’t this BAND-itry?
