The national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for February is shaky as various tendencies intensify efforts to hijack the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The much anticipated national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for next month is shaky as various tendencies intensify efforts to hijack the party ahead of the 2023 general elections, Daily Trust reports.

Top chieftains of the party including aspirants lamented that six weeks after February was fixed for the exercise, the caretaker committee under the leadership of the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has not commenced proper preparations for the exercise.

Gunmen Attack Passenger Boat In Bayelsa

Gunmen attacked a passenger boat in Bayelsa on New Year’s Eve. The boat, carrying 14 passengers left Yenagoa en-route Twon-Brass in Brass Local Government Area of the state when the gunmen struck.

They made away with the 115-horsepower Yamaha outboard engine of the boat and dispossessed the passengers of their valuables.

Bashir Tofa, 93 Presidential Candidate, Is Dead

Alhaji Bashir Tofa, one of the leading candidates in the 1993 Presidential election, which was adjudged the freest and fairest in the country, is dead.

Details of his death are still sketchy but the elder statesman was said to have been ill for a while.

Presidency: All Aso Rock Visitors Will Undergo COVID Test

Visitors to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, are now required to take a rapid COVID-19 test before they are permitted to enter the seat of power, popularly known as Aso Rock, either to visit the President or any other official. Those affected are VIPs, including governors.

The new regulation, according to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, will require every visitor to compulsorily take the test free of charge at the entrance gates of the Villa.

Dowen: Police Await Toxicology Report To Determine Cause Of Death

The end may not have been heard of the case of Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr) as the Lagos State Police Command says it awaits a toxicology report, which would ascertain the actual cause of death.

Daily Trust had reported that Oromoni allegedly died as a result of the beating he received at the hands of five senior students of Dowen College for refusing to join their cult group.

Shariah Council Appoints Hadiyatullah New President

The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) Sunday named Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiyatullah as its new president. Hadiyatullah was, until Sunday, the vice president.

He was announced president following the death, last Thursday, of Dr Ibrahim Datti Ahmad.
