The brief: Minister on hot seat; Freight charges; Ultimatum to Ministers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Bello, has been summoned by the House of Representatives over the deteriorating infrastructure and rising insecurity in the nation’s capital.

The federal government has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to resume collection of freight charges in naira denominated invoices for excess capacity for coastal movement of petroleum products, using the Import and Export (I&E) window rate for the time being.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has given a one-week ultimatum to Ministries, Departments and Agencies yet to defend their budget proposals for 2022 to do so or risk zero allocation.

Residents Decry Rot In FCT As Reps Summon Minister

The House of Representatives on Tuesday summoned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Bello, to appear before it to explain the deteriorating infrastructure and rising insecurity in the nation’s capital under his watch.

The anger by the legislators came at a time residents of Abuja and environs accused both the FCT Administration and the six area councils of not doing much to improve or maintain the existing infrastructure in the territory.

FG Orders NNPC To Collect Coastal Freight Charges For Petrol In Naira

The federal government has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to resume the collection of freight charges in naira denominated invoices for excess capacity for coastal movement of petroleum products, using the Import and Export (I&E) window rate for the time being.

It also directed petroleum marketers to revert to the official depot price for the sale of petrol nationwide.

Ikoyi Collapsed Building Rescue Operation May End Wednesday

Barring any unforeseen development, the search and rescue operation at the scene of the 21-storey building, which collapsed in Ikoyi, Lagos last week may be concluded on Wednesday (today).

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has given a one-week ultimatum to Ministries, Departments and Agencies yet to defend their budget proposals for 2022 to do so or risk zero allocation.

He said the one-week extension would allow relevant committees to conclude work on the budget estimates of MDAs for presentation to the Committee on Appropriations.
