The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) says Nigeria is not ripe to adopt direct primaries.

The South East Council of Traditional Rulers and the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops on Peace and Conflict Resolution Monday raised the alarm over the deteriorating security situation in Imo State.

Nigeria Not Ripe For Direct Primaries — IPAC

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) says Nigeria is not ripe to adopt direct primaries however beneficial it may appear to be.

The IPAC, which is a pressure group of the 18 registered political parties in the country, said the National Assembly’s attempt to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill would be fruitless.

Bashir Tofa 1947- 2022

Elder statesman, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa who died on Monday has been buried in Kano after a funeral prayer attended by hundreds of people from all walks of life. He was a businessman, politician, author, activist, journalist and a strong contender during the 1993 presidential election said to be the freest in Nigerian history.

The torrent of condolences that have been trickling in since the announcement of his death is evidence of the huge legacy he left behind during his 73 years on earth.

Imo Now A War Zone – Igbo Monarchs, Clerics

The South East Council of Traditional Rulers and the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops on Peace and Conflict Resolution Monday raised the alarm over the deteriorating security situation in Imo State.

They lamented that the state had become a war zone, saying “the Igbo nation is appalled that those responsible seem unable to gauge the consequences of their conduct”.

Why Zamfara Bandits’ Kingpin, Turji, Released 52 Captives

More facts have emerged on why a notorious bandit in Zamfara State, Bello Turji, unconditionally released 52 persons who had been under his captivity for a long time, sources familiar with the matter told Daily Trust.

The release of the captives, Daily Trust gathered, was part of a renewed backdoor talks between Turji and emissaries of the Zamfara State Government.

AFCON: One Week To Go, Eguavoen Yet To Train With Full Squad

With less than a week to the Super Eagles’ first game against Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, interim coach Austin Eguavoen, has not had the opportunity to train with the full squad as only 14 players are in camp.
