The leadership of Kantin Kwari Market Trader’s Association has called on the Kano state House of Assembly to consider members of the market before passing into law the ‘Kantin Kwari Market Cooperation bill’ sponsored by Kano state government and currently in the second reading.
The call was made by the Chairman of the association, Ambassador Sharif Sagir Wada during a press briefing on the proposed bill.
According to him, the bill, which is an executive bill ought to have included the directly affected marketers operating in the market as the bill is meant to address issues related to them.
“If really the bill is meant for the benefit of the marketers, there is a need for the marketers to be included in all the bill processes, but unfortunately the marketers are excluded from the process and that has necessitated the association to draw the attention of the leadership of the house to include the association in the bill processes before officially passing it into law,” said the chairman.
It will be recalled that the Kano state government has presented before the state house of assembly a bill ‘Kantin Kwari Market Cooperation bill’ and the bill has gone through first reading and it is scheduled for second reading.
It was gathered that the bill seeks to regulate the business activities in the international textile market situated in the state.
