The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Wednesday said it has spent over N3.353 billion to train 762 academic staff in four tertiary institutions in Gombe State.
TETFund’s Director of Academic Staff Training and Development, Muhammad Sani Sulaiman, disclosed this during a programme on utilisation of staff intervention programme at the Gombe State University.

He said lecturers from the Federal University of Kashere (FUK); Gombe State University (GSU); Federal College of Education (Technical) and Gombe State College of Education, Billiri, were sponsored for Masters and PhD degree programmes both within and outside the country.
The director disclosed that before the introduction of TETFund sponsorship, only about 40 per cent of Nigerian lecturers had Masters and PhD degrees.
“But with intervention from the Fund, the percentage has significantly increased to over 90 per cent,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of TETFund Board of Trustees, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim Imam, said in the last 10 years the agency has executed over 10, 000 projects in 226 higher institutions across the country.
He said the agency was planning to provide 160, 000 bed spaces in 100 institutions, information and communication technology equipment to facilitate electronic learning and a stable power supply.
