Tension in Nasarawa APC as 9 governorship aspirants rejects delegates list

Nine out of 11 governorship aspirants on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State have vowed to resist any change to the authentic delegate list confirmed by the national leadership of the party for the September 29 primaries in the state.

Nasarawa state Deputy Governor Silas Ali Agara, and one of the aspirants made the group’s position known in a chat with newsmen shortly after APC Zonal meeting held in Akwanga yesterday with party officials, delegates from the zone were in attendance.

The aspirants who kicked against any change to the delegates list include Hon. Ahmed Wadada, Alhaji Danladi Envuluanza, Hon. Zakari Idde,  Dauda Kigbu,  Muhammed Maikaya, Dr James Angbazo, Arc. Shehu Tukur and Silas Ali Agara.

Agara said the resistance become necessary due to credible information that some undemocratic forces had replaced the original list of delegates in some local governments with names of people who would favour their preferred candidate at the primaries.

Agara who did not disclosed names of those behind the alleged alternation of the delegates list, however fingered government and party officials as being behind the plot to impose a candidate on the people.

He said the group collectively wrote to the national leadership of the party to rescue the situation by releasing the authentic list of delegates that would participate in the primaries across the state.

“We have collectively agreed to defend democracy in Nasarawa State. What we want is for the right thing to be done and we have tabled the issue before national secretariat of our party and they are looking into it,” he said.

Also speaking to newsmen, another APC governorship aspirant Alhaji Danladi Envuluanza, said the distortion of delegates list would not augur well for the party, hence the unity amongst the aspirants over the matter to fight against the undemocratic move capable of tearing the party apart.

Envuluanza warned that if nothing was done to resolve the crisis, chances of APC winning the governorship election in 2019 would be slim as voters will have lost confidence in a party that does not promote internal democracy.

“We are here in pursuant of one main objective which is fairness as enshrined in the APC constitution. We want fairness, equity and justice. We brought ourselves together because we want to fight injustice crippling into our party,” he said.
