The killing of a youth on a motorcycle today around Celebridge, an area close to Tina junction in Jos north local government area of Plateau State has triggered tension.
Daily Trust gathered that the motorcyclist was attacked and killed by youths when he tried to pass through celebridge to enable him cross through British America junction.
His death sparked protest by youths from dutse uku, a nearby Hausa community who threatened vengeance.
However, an eyewitness, Mohammed Dahiru told Daily Trust that the timely intervention of community leaders and youth leaders helped calm the situation.
“When people noticed that the young man was killed, they wanted to cross over for vengeance and that led to tension with many running for fear. But everything has died down with the efforts of community and youth leaders,” he said.
Dahiru however said no security personnel had visited the area since riot broke out in the city on Friday after 11 people were killed Thursday night around Rukuba road.
Our correspondent reports that post violent protests in Jos are often characterised by ambushes and silent killings of persons perceived to be of the opposite faith by communities. Motorcycle and tricycle riders as well as petty traders are often the major targets of such killings.
