An early morning fire on Saturday, razed part of an Islamic centre in Bwari town, in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, affecting some classes and also school office.
Secretary of Annur Islamic centre, Bwari, Malam Abdullahi Nayaya, while speaking to our reporter over the incident on Saturday, said his attention was called around 3 am when the fire started by yet to be identified cause.
“No one is certain about how the fire started, but we are grateful to the Almighty, in succeeding to control the whole issue, through combined efforts of neighbours and others, by 4 am.
He said four classrooms and the principal office were burnt by the fire at the center which houses primary and junior secondary schools of both western and Islamic orientations.
It was gathered that a mosque and the Imam’s house also attached to the centre were spared by the inferno.
While the cause of the fire incident was yet to be ascertained, there are suspicions that the incident was caused by some miscreants in order to cause religious misunderstanding among the residents.
It was gathered that a joint security patrol has been deployed to the area and other parts of the town following the incident, with religious and community leaders visiting the site and calling for calm.
Bwari Divisional Police Officer, CSP Biodun Makanjuola confirmed the incident, adding that investigation into the matter is ongoing.
