Teenager lynched for ‘raping, killing’ housewife in Benue

A teenage boy was at the weekend lynched for allegedly raping and killing a housewife, Maria Ameh, in Itabono community in Owukpa District in Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State. 

A witness who simply identified the teenager as Francis, said he alongside two other of his gang members accosted their victim in the bush while she went to fetch firewood and raped her and thereafter killed her.

A witness said luck, however, ran out on the gang after villagers apprehended one of them, the 18-year-old Francis, who confessed to the crime.

He further said that after the suspect confessed, he was lynched.

At the time of filing this report, the villagers said one of the two other suspects on the run had been apprehended and was in police custody at Owukpa.

 The police spokesperson in the state, SP Catherine Anene, did not respond to calls or messages put through her mobile phone about the incident.
