Teenager loses ear, others sustain injuries during Buhari’s victory rally

Celebration to mark the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential election has left many injured in Bauchi State after thugs allegedly hijacked the rally.

One of those who sustained injuries from the attacks was a 19-year-old Muhammad Harisu of Nassawa area in Bauchi metropolis.

The teenager lost his left ear after an alleged attack by suspected political thugs during the rally organized by supporters of All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state capital.

Harisu said he was allegedly attacked outside his home while watching the rally like other spectators when the suspected thugs went wild and started attacking people, stabbing them with knives, cutlasses and other sharp objects without any provocation.

According to him, four of the rampaging hoodlums inflicted injuries with machetes on his back, hands and his ear.

He said: “I tried to run but they had already wounded me. So I rushed to a nearby chemist shop where the wounds were covered with bandage to stop them from bleeding.

“I was then taken to Tashan Babiye hospital by the police where the wounded ear was further treated. Though, I can hear with that ear, it is not very clear and I feel severe pain.”

Speaking on the incidence, the PRP candidate for Bauchi constituency in the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sadiq Idris alleged that the rally, led by his the ruling APC, stormed his residential area along Nassarawa in Bauchi metropolis and allegedly attacked innocent people including his pregnant sister and destroyed his posters.

He claimed that the attack was aimed at intimidating people ahead of the governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.

According to him, his sister was allegedly attacked inside her house.

The Bauchi State Police Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar confirmed the incident, saying that the Command received a report about the incident around 4:00 PM.

He said it was reported that some members of various political parties were celebrating their victories after the Presidential and National Assembly election in Bauchi metropolis when they were attacked by some suspected Sara Suka thugs with machetes and sticks.

“On receipt of the report, the Command mobilized its operatives to those areas and curtailed the situation. However during the unfortunate incident three innocent people were confirmed injured, they were then taken to the hospital by the police, treated and discharged,” he said.

He disclosed that, the command had arrested four persons in connection with the incident and is still investigating the issue.
