The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has selected Nigerian teenage fencer Wisdom Okanlawon as one of five athletes from 30 African countries to participate in a high-performance training camp and compete at the 2025 Cadet & Junior World Championships in Wuxi, China.
According to the FIE, the training camp, scheduled for April 1–12, is organized in collaboration with Olympic Solidarity. The initiative aims to identify and support top fencing talent across Africa, offering world-class training and competitive opportunities. The camp will feature some of the most promising young fencers from around the world.
In a statement from the Nigerian Fencing Federation, Okanlawon’s selection underscores his impressive achievements and potential to compete at the highest level. His inclusion in this elite program recognizes his exceptional skill, dedication, and ability to represent Africa on the global stage. Under the guidance of top coaches, the camp will provide him with a valuable opportunity to refine his techniques and enhance his competitive edge.
Following the training camp, Okanlawon will compete at the World Championships from April 13–15, where he will challenge the best junior fencers from across the globe.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigerian Fencing Federation, Adeyinka Samuel, reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to securing more opportunities for athletes to develop their skills.
